A Traditional Preparation of Neem Leaves in Sesame Oil
In ancient India, the neem tree was revered as one of the most versatile plants on Earth. Even today, some communities hail their local neem tree as the “village dispensary” because every part of this powerfully cooling plant is considered to have a benefit for the body, mind, and spirit. For our Neem Oil, we followed a traditional Ayurvedic recipe that blends the immune supportive, cleansing benefits of neem leaves into a base of lubricating, warming, organic sesame oil.
- Neem Oil is best known as a topical oil for skin, but has many other uses as well. It is also a powerful herbal ally when it comes to promoting hair health and can support the teeth and gums.
- To support your skin, apply a small amount of Neem Oil to the desired area and massage gently. This can be done daily as part of your morning abhyanga routine, or as a spot treatment when needed.
- As a hair treatment, massage a small amount into the scalp, roots, and ends. Leave on for at least 60 minutes, or overnight if desired. (Just be sure to lay a towel over your pillow if you do so!)
- Neem Oil can be rinsed away easily in the shower, though like other Ayurvedic oils, it likes to stay in the scalp! To wash out of your hair, apply your shampoo before getting your hair wet.
- For use in oil pulling, swish and/or gargle with Neem Oil for thirty to sixty seconds, then spit into your toilet or trashcan. You can also apply it directly to the teeth or gums.
